Australian speciality coffee from the ground up

This tour is a walk through our working coffee farm in Far North Queensland. It is not staged and it is not scripted. It is how Australian speciality coffee is grown, processed, roasted and brewed here by the people doing the work. We grow, process and roast coffee on site. This tour connects those dots.

The Field

We begin in the paddocks where the coffee is grown. You will walk through the rows, learn how coffee grows in Australian conditions, and see the decisions that shape flavour long before a bean is picked. We will talk varieties, seasons, soil, water, climate and what it takes to grow quality coffee in this part of the world.

Processing

From the field we move into our processing area. This is where coffee becomes coffee. You will see how cherries are handled after harvest, how fermentation works, and the difference between washed, honey and natural processes. We will explain why we process the way we do and how small changes here have a big impact in the cup.

Roasting

Next is the roastery. You will see how we roast our own coffee and how we approach roasting Australian grown beans. We will talk about development, balance and restraint, and why roasting is about revealing what is already there rather than forcing flavour.

The Cup

We finish with coffee. You will taste what you have just seen, brewed simply and thoughtfully. This is a chance to ask questions, slow down, and connect flavour back to place, process and people.

From the Farm

After the tour, you are welcome to spend time at the farm and purchase coffee and a small selection of Jack Murat merchandise directly from us. Think of it as a cellar door for coffee. Straightforward, local, and from the source.

What to expect

This is a small group working farm experience. You will be on your feet, outdoors for parts of the tour, and close to real equipment and real work. It is informal, practical and honest.
